Bastia

After 37 hours of travel, I arrived in Bastia somewhat worse for wear. I wouldn’t do such a long trip again without overnighting in Paris. Lesson learnt! 

Today, I headed into the city to wander around the old port and citadel. It’s such a busy port city with huge ferries coming and going all day from France and Italy, both the mainland and Sardinia. The traffic is incredible and I’m struggling to work out where all these people and cars are going on a relatively small island. Clearly it is a popular holiday destination for Europeans. 

Corisca lost 11,000 soldiers in WWI which is hard to comprehend when you think about how small the population must have been then. The citadel was severely impacted during the war with much of it sustaining damage.
