Povoa de Varzim to Esposende 24km

The day started very cloudy and damp, so much so, that the shell Izzy painted for me started to drip paint. It was quite cool and I remained in long sleeves until the last 45 minutes or so.

The coastline is so foggy in the morning and it was the same last year when I was here which makes viewing quite impossible.

There weren’t as many pilgrims as I expected but apparently it’s the last 100km that’s gets busy. I met a lovely young doctor from the UK, about to immigrate to New Zealand. We shared some lunch and the last part of our walk together. We may catch up again further up the road.

The signage was really good today and I hardly needed to check the map. Interestingly, one of the signs on the cobbled road indicated it was also part of the EV1. Curious, as I wouldn’t ride my loaded touring bike on those cobbles!

The sun finally came out and I’ve been able to do some washing. My body is trashed after today so fingers crossed it recovers overnight as I’ve got another big day tomorrow. The place I’m staying is nice and in the centre so not too far to go for food!

  1. Some of the scenery shines through the fog nicely
